The Mechanical Engineering Department is the largest department at the Federal University of Santa Catarina with nearly 70 faculty members, 25 technical and administrative staff, and 1500 graduate and undergraduate students. The Department is structured in different thematic areas giving the necessary support to two undergraduate courses and two postgraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering, as well as providing support to other courses of the university. It occupies approximately 20,000 square meters of built area, covering 25 research laboratories, where most students develop their research activities, supported by government research funding agencies, R & D program resources, as well as investments from private sector companies. The Mechanical Engineering Department aims to address the most pressing challenges in science and technology, contributing decisively to the generation of knowledge, to the training of competent professionals and entrepreneurs and to the technological advancement of the Brazilian industrial sector.
