WEG Global Director is EMC Alumni
Eng. Rodrigo Fumo took office as Global Engineering Director of WEG Motores Industriais and WEG Energia on April 1, 2020. After graduating from the Mechanical Engineering Department at UFSC in 2001, the following year Fumo was admitted to WEG, initially as a Product Engineer. In 2006, he was already Head of Application Engineering; in 2008 he became Head of Engine Engineering at HGF; and in 2009, he accumulated the role of Business Development Consultant to the previous position. He was Product Engineering Manager before leaving Jaraguá do Sul, in 2015, and taking over the Engineering Directorate of WEG in China, which he left for the new role, in Santa Catarina.
President of the Institute for Technological Research, but still modest
Jefferson de Oliveira Gomes got his bachelor´s, master´s and doctoral´s degrees in Mechanical Engineering at UFSC, before he became Professor at the Technological Institute of Aeronautics in 2004, Director of Innovation at SENAI Santa Catarina in 2015 and President of the Institute for Technological Research in 2019, among other positions. He was also Research Assistant at Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionstechnologie IPT (Germany) in 1998, and Process Engineer at Renault Group in 2001. Despite all his qualifications, Mr. Gomes still have the humility to thank EMC teachers in the video!
From graduation to Formula 1: a 20-year career at Renault
In his last semester of the Mechanical Engineering undergraduate course, in 1998, Ricardo Penteado got an internship at the Renault plant, in France, indicated by EMC Prof. Narciso Ramos Arroyo. “With the technical knowledge base that graduation gave me, I completed a six-month internship in just two,” he said in November 2019, when he came to honor the creation of the EMC Alumni. Mr. Penteado was then Head of Track Operations for Formula 1 and coordinated a team of 60 people.
First EMC professor to do doctorate in Germany tells more about his career
One of the first to join Alumni EMC in 2019, Prof. Berend Snoeijer played an essential role in the creation of the undergraduate course in Materials Engineering and LabMat – Materials Laboratory at UFSC. He was also the first professor at this institution to move abroad, in the case of Germany, in 1970, to do a doctorate at Leibniz Universität Hannover (1973).
Going further back in time, the retired professor entered the former School of Industrial Engineering in 1963, and shortly after graduation, in 1968, he began to teach in what would become, in 1971, the Department of Mechanical Engineering UFSC, in which taught for 42 years.
Three EMC graduates received millionaire contributions to consolidate company
Mechanical engineers Fabrício Hertz, Lucas Bastos and Lucas Mondadori graduated from UFSC in 2014 and, in the same year, they had a project selected by a State Government Innovation program, to create Horus Aeronaves. With the idea of mapping large areas of agricultural planting with drones, they have already received millionaire contributions from other development programs that foster their business. The company already has a branch in São Paulo State and customers throughout Latin America.
Research about wind energy at Lepten opened doors for engineer
Isadora Limas is a Mechanical Engineer graduated at UFSC and still during her undergraduate course, she obtained a Scientific Initiation scholarship to research at Lepten and at the University of Calgary (Canada). At the end of the course, in 2015, her interest in wind energy led her to get a master’s degree, with research in the same laboratory aimed at forecasting wind generation using the Weather Research and Forecasting model and Artificial Neural Networks. Since 2018 Isadora has worked at Camargo-Schubert Wind Energy Company.
MIT doctoral student credits success to EMC course
Gustavo Marques Hobold received a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and during graduate the course he published 6 papers in scientific journals and made a presentation at an international conference. He also won the ABCM-Embraer 2018 Award for Best Master’s Dissertation in 2018 and in the same year was accepted as a doctoral student at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). In the video, he encourages other people to join the Posmec courses.
Be inspired by the example of an engineer with + 50 years of experience
Director of the Computer Democratization Committee / SC, Member of the Advisory Board of FloripAmanhã and Member of the Fiscal Council of Alumni EMC, Otávio Ferrari Filho has never stopped working since he graduated in 1966, first class of Mechanical Engineers at UFSC (CV at https : //www.linkedin.com/in/otavioferrarifilho/). Even with so many professional activities, he promoted several gatherings with former colleagues over more than half a century.
